The Frontiers of Science Award (FSA) was established in 2023 to honor breakthrough discoveries in the fields of Mathematics, Physics and Theoretical Information Science. We are proud to announce that Professors Alessandro Pigati and Elia Bruè have been selected as members of the EMS Young Academy (EMYA) for the 2025-2028 term, a position they will hold for the next four years.  Bocconi News. 

This research aims to explore and solve complex mathematical problems related to special shapes and surfaces in higher dimensions. The project will investigate how these shapes behave, attacking the more challenging general case in which they aren't necessarily stable or don't minimize area. Bocconi News. 

De Rosa's work gives a positive answer to longstanding conjectures in the broad field of geometric measure theory, such as the conjecture posed by the renowned mathematician William K. Allard in 1983 on the min-max construction of closed optimally regular anisotropic minimal hypersurfaces in closed Riemannian manifolds.  Department of Decision Sciences, Bocconi. 

Professor Elia Bruè and his research team have been awarded the prestigious Frontiers of Science Award at the International Congress of Basic Science in Beijing, China.  He was recognized for his groundbreaking work on the paper "Non-uniqueness of Leray solutions of the forced Navier-Stokes equations", and published in the Annals of Mathematics in 2021. They thought they could characterize mathematical shapes by synthesizing numerous local measurements. But newly discovered, paradoxically curved spaces show that this isn’t always possible. “Things can be much more wild than what we thought,” said Elia Bruè. QuantaMagazine.

Antonio De Rosa was funded by the European Research Council to develop a branch of mathematics born from an intuition about the structure of soap films which is also valuable in materials science and in computer graphics. Bocconi News.
